One of the most enlightening moments came during one of my workshops. I believe it was called Healing Hands and Hearts. Lisa Johnson, a hospice nurse in Knoxville, led the workshop. One of the things she said that I found surprising was that each of us is given the ability to heal. Of course, the healing comes from God and is not a healing of the physical body, but of the mind and spirit. Through the laying on of hands and anointing with oils, we can channel our own vibrations of healing to others.
I was paired with a woman named Bonnie, whom I'd never even met. During our exercise, I was supposed to be the "healer" and she was the receiver. To make a long story short, after we were finished, I asked Bonnie, "Were you praying for me?" She sweetly answered, "Well, of course," with the most caring, understanding face I'd ever seen. When I was telling some people later about it I described it as the "face of Jesus." I don't know what He will look like, but I think when I see him, I will know that same feeling that I had when I looked into Bonnie's face.
Some of you might think I've lost it, and maybe I have. But I really think there's something to this. So, I ask you to pray for me to have a better understanding of all this. Thanks be to God!

Lake Guntersville, here we come!

http://www.lutherantrinity.com/1/post/2011/09/lake-guntersville-here-we-come.html

http://www.lutherantrinity.com/1/post/2011/09/lake-guntersville-here-we-come.html#comments

Uncategorized

So, this weekend is the WELCA convention and we're leaving on Friday. Many of the homeless just sort of sulked in the shadows, not asking for anything. Then you had the folks staggering up to you asking for change. And then, you had the more industrious with their coolers offering you a bottled water for $1. I don't know if any of you have ever been away from the church or not, but let me tell you from experience - coming back is like coming back home. The love of Christ is in all places, but having a church home and a loving church family makes all the difference. We might have some problems here at Trinity, but most churches are going through the same stuff. And, after all, a church is not a building. It's the people that go there. I love you Trinity, and it's good to be back home.

Oops! I'm really excited about the water show at the Bellagio. But, enough about me.

This Sunday is Holy Trinity Sunday. That's what this church is named for after all. Until I became a Lutheran (no, I wasn't born one) I never heard a whole lot about the Trinity. I think it's one of my favorite things about the church - the whole mystery of the three in one. Three distinct persons, yet one. We talk to God, we walk with Jesus, but how many of us have ever experienced the Holy Spirit? We sometimes pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us, but do we even know when He is there with us? Most don't. I think that any time anyone says something like "That's a God thing," that many times it's the Spirit working in our world. So, stay alert you Christians out there. Keep praying for the Holy Spirit to work here at Trinity, but be prepared for some really powerful stuff...or it might just be that "still small voice."
