Marked with the cross of Christ forever, we are claimed, gathered and sent for the sake of the world.

This ELCA mission statement is enabling our Congregation Council to evaluate our mission as a congregation.  In the past two months, Pastor Sharron Lucas and Pastor Schimmer have talked to our Council about how to shape our mission using this ELCA mission statement.  The Council agreed to use the following structure as a working document to begin to organize our mission for 2011.

Each key word in this mission statement (claimed, gathered, sent) will have a corresponding commission with supporting teams (no longer committees).

Thus, we have the following working draft to look at our 2011 ministry:

            Key Word is CLAIMED.
Its corresponding commission is FAITH FORMATION.
Teams in this commission deal with ministries to enrich our faith in Christ such as Youth and Family, Adult Discipleship, ChristCare and Stephen Ministry.

            Key Word is GATHERED.
Its corresponding commission is LIFE TOGETHER.
Teams in this commission deal with  ministries which take place on our campus such as Worship, Hospitality, Leadership, Property and Finance.

            Key Word is SENT.
Its corresponding commission is LIVING FAITH.
Teams in this commission deal with Social Missions.

The symbol for this way of thinking about mission is three interlocking circles which also is the symbol for the Trinity.

One circle represents CLAIMED; a second circle represents GATHERED; and a third circle represents SENT.
Each circle is complete in itself, but has common ground with the two other circles to represent our connection to one another in mission.  We also realize that the foundational Bible verse for our mission is focused on Christ’s Great Commission from Matthew chapter 28.

There Christ calls us to, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…
